- How is the Sleep Score calculated?
- The Sleep Score combines eight clinical metrics using a transparent formula: sleep duration (against age-specific recommendations), sleep efficiency (time asleep ÷ time in bed), sleep onset latency, WASO (wake after sleep onset), percentage of deep sleep, percentage of REM sleep, nocturnal HRV trend, and sleep regularity (SRI). Each metric is weighted independently so you can see exactly which factor drove your score up or down.
- What is HRV and why does it predict recovery?
- HRV (heart rate variability) is the millisecond-to-millisecond variation between heartbeats recorded during sleep. A higher nocturnal HRV reflects a well-recovered autonomic nervous system and predicts greater training readiness the following day. Sleep Analytics tracks your 7-day HRV trend so that single-night outliers do not distort the signal.
- How does Sleep Analytics connect workouts to sleep quality?
- The app reads your Apple Watch or Garmin workout data — specifically CTL, ATL, and TSB (Training Stress Balance) — and correlates it with your nightly sleep metrics over a rolling 14-night window. Patterns such as late-evening hard sessions reducing REM, or heavy endurance days improving deep sleep, emerge automatically after two weeks of data.
- Does Sleep Analytics work without Apple Watch?
- Basic sleep duration and bed-time tracking are available without a wearable using iPhone motion data. However, sleep stage breakdown (REM, Deep, Light) and HRV require Apple Watch Series 4 or later running watchOS 9 or later.
- Is my sleep data private?
- Yes. All data — sleep sessions, workout imports, and scores — is processed locally on your iPhone. No cloud account is required, no advertising tracking is embedded, and no data is sent to external servers.
